Filet Mignon
Filet Mignon is a cut of beef from the small end of the tenderloin section of the beef cattle. Filet Mignon in French means cute fillet or dainty fillet. This small cut of beef is really tender because it comes from the tenderloin section, thus it really desirable and expensive. You can also find this being called medallions, or tenderloin steak.
Filet Mignon is not as flavorful as other cuts of steak, so a lot of times you will find it wrapped in bacon, or if it isn’t it’s a good idea to do so since it has little fat. It is usually found in 1 or 2 inch thick portions and should be grilled over high heat. It is often seared on both sides then finished grilling on a lower level of heat.
If you are going to grill Filet Mignon you are going to need a good steak knife to cut it. I really love these steak knives, they are really sharp and cut really well.
