What’s the Difference Between a Pork Butt and Boston Butt?
The pork butt and the Boston butt are the same cuts of pork, they are just called by a different name. The cut of pork is from the shoulder of the hog, on the upper front leg. This cut is often cooked slow and with low heat on either a grill or smoker. It is the choice when making pulled pork.
Many people think that since butt is in the name it comes from the rear of the hog. However the name butt comes from the wooden barrels that some pork was shipped in during revolutionary times. The name Boston butt comes because of how the pork was cut in the Boston area.
If you are going to make pull pork you are going to want one of these. These things are great for shredding the pork, and also moving it off of the grill.
