Mexican Chili Cheese Burgers
1 lb ground chuck
1 cup plum tomato, chopped & seeded
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, minced
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp jalapeno pepper, minced & seeded
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp black pepper
Cooking spray
4 slices Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese
1/4 cup sour cream
4 hamburger buns
4 iceberg lettuce leaves
8 slices tomato
Grilled onions
In a large mixing bowl combine the ground chuck, plum tomato, cilantro, chili powder, jalapeno pepper, slat oregano, cumin, and black pepper. Divide into 4 equal sized balls and form into 1/2 inch thick patties.
Set up your gas or charcoal grill for medium-high heat.
Coat the grill grate with a bit of cooking spray. Place the patties on the grill. Cook for approximately 5 to 6 minutes per side, flipping only once. Once done place a slice of cheese on each burger and cook for another minute until the cheese is melted.
Spread about 1 tbsp of sour cream on the top half of each bun. Place the burgers on the bottom half of the buns, then top with the lettuce, tomato, onions, and finally the top half of the bun.
