I’m going to show you how to make smoked turkey legs, whether you want to cook pre-smoked turkey legs in the oven, or smoke your own fresh turkey legs. I absolutely love smoked turkey legs, they are so big and meaty, the kids really love them too because they are so easy to hold on to.
Now if you are looking to smoke your own fresh turkey legs, which I highly recommend, you will want to check out my post on How to Smoke a Turkey. The process is the same whether you are smoking a whole turkey or just the legs and wings. The nice thing about smoking the turkey legs yourself is that you have so much more control over the end product. You can add as much or as little smoke as you want, and also experiment with using different woods.
A lot of people ask me about smoked turkey leg brine. Well, there are tons of different brine recipes out there, and I highly recommend you experiment, but if you want a really good recipe for turkey brine, check out my post, How to Brine a Turkey for a really good one.
If you’ve purchase yourself some pre-smoked turkey legs, I’m going to show you how to cook them in the oven. Pre-smoked turkey legs are already fully cooked, so basically you will need to just warm them up. So, you are probably wondering how long to cook the smoked turkey legs and at what temperature. Basically what I do is heat my oven to 350F, place the pre-smoked turkey legs in a covered casserole dish, or wrap them in foil to keep them moist, and bake the smoked turkey drumsticks for approximately 45 minutes.
Besides eating the smoked turkey drumsticks as is, I also like to make smoked turkey leg soup. The recipe I have is really awesome; you should definitely check it out if you are into soups like me.
