Today I’m going to show you how to make rotisserie ribs. Ribs cooked on a rotisserie have a different taste then your typical barbecued ribs, you get a nice crust and the melting fat bastes the ribs while is slowly turns. This way of grilling ribs brings out the natural flavor of the pork.
Grilling ribs on a rotisserie is really simple too, so let’s get on to it. You are going to want to use a fairly short rib since longer ribs will get too close to the flame. I generally go with baby back ribs. So, get yourself two racks of baby back ribs. This is all that the rotisserie will be able to accommodate.
You might not currently have a rotisserie for you grill, but at the end of this article I will show you where to get a good one for both a charcoal grill, and a gas grill.
Once you have your baby back ribs you are going to want to prep them. The ribs have a membrane on them that you will want to peel off. Using a knife, slide it in under the membrane on one side of the rack. This is easiest to do right next to one of the ribs. Get a grip on the membrane and pull it down the length of the ribs to remove it.
Once the membrane is removed, take a sharp, slender knife and make a hole in the meat between every two ribs; this is where we will insert the spit. Once all the holes are made weave the ribs onto the spit through the holes using an over and under motion. When the ribs are on the spit sprinkle on any seasonings or rubs you prefer. There are all kinds of prepackaged rib rubs available if you are uncertain what seasonings you want to use.
Set up your gas or charcoal grill for rotisserie cooking, and heat it to high. You will want to use a couple of drip pan positioned under the ribs. Aluminum pans work best for this. If you are using a charcoal grill you can position the coals around the drip pan, or to one side of the drip pans.
When your grill is ready, attach the spit the rotisserie and turn it on. You will want to grill the ribs for around 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of your ribs. All during grilling I’d recommend you baste the baby back ribs. I like to user apple cider vinegar, or some olive oil with some fresh herbs and garlic in it.
You will be able to tell when they are done when the meat has shrunk back from the ends of the bones about ¼ inches. The ribs will be a nice golden brown color. Once done serve immediately. That is how to make rotisserie ribs the easy way.
Now if you don’t currently have a rotisserie for your grill you can get one for either a gas or charcoal grill. I use one on my charcoal Weber grill; this is the one that I use. If you have a gas grill and would like a rotisserie for it, here is a good one to use. It is a universal gas grill rotisserie, but you will still want to make sure it will work with your particular gas grill.
