When you think about a really good steak a lot of people think T-bone, I know I do. I’m going to show you how to grill T-bone steaks that turn out amazing every time. If you like steak, you are going to want to read the rest of this article.
In my opinion T-bone steaks are one of the tastiest steaks you can grill up. My reasoning is you get the best of both worlds. First you have that rich, flavorful strip, which is the large side of the T-bone, but you also have that tender beef tenderloin, which is the small side of the T-bone. It is such a great cut of steak.
First off go to the butcher’s shop and get yourself some nice 1-inch thick T-bone steaks. The thing about these steaks is they are so versatile; you can do so many different things with them. Spice them up however you like, heck try marinating them or adding some smoke too. For my basic T-bone steak that turns out simple amazing, I just use salt and pepper.
I sprinkle a bit of kosher salt on both sides and also season with a generous amount of freshly ground black pepper. With you steaks seasoned, set up your gas or charcoal grill for direct grilling over high heat. We are going to grill these bad boys right over the heat source.
When the grill is ready place the steaks on the grate at a 45 degree angle to the bars. We are going to get some nice crosshatching on these. Grill for about 3 minutes then rotate the steaks to get that crosshatching. Grill for about 3 more minutes then flip them. Do the same thing on the opposite side to get that crosshatching.
This will get you some nice medium-rare T-bone steaks. The internal temperature will be about 145F on an instant read thermometer. Here is the one I use. After the steaks are done to your liking, remove them and let them rest for about 3 minutes before slicing into them.
This is how to grill T-bone steaks that turn out awesome. Like I said before, feel free to experiment with the spices. Sometimes I like to heat things up, so I will sprinkle on some hot sauce and/or cayenne pepper. I’ve also done a balsamic vinaigrette marinade that turned out really good. Experiment, that is what grilling is all about.
