I’m going to show you how to cook smoked turkey necks so they are delicious and the meat falls right off the bone.
First off there are a couple ways you can get your turkey necks. You can purchase your turkey necks already smoked, or you could smoke them yourself if you get fresh turkey necks.
Yes, buying them pre-smoked is easier, but smoking them yourself gives you more control of the flavor. If you want to smoke them yourself, check out my post on How to Smoke a Turkey.
If you have smoked turkey necks and you want them cooked the best way is to simmer them. While they are cooked through the smoking process, they will be too tough, that is why you will need to simmer them.
Using a large stock pot cover the smoked turkey necks with water. Cover, and simmer on medium heat for approximately 1 ½ hours. After the time is up check the turkey necks with a fork. The meat on the neck should flake away easy. If it doesn’t, continue to simmer for another half hour and check again. Here is the stock pot I use, it comes in handy for a lot of different meals and kitchen tasks.
