A lot of people when they think about turkey burgers they think healthy and bland. Yes turkey burgers can be healthy, but they can also be really flavorful.
They turkey burgers have a ton of flavor as you will see, and they also are topped with one of my favorite cheeses, Gouda. They are another way to make grilled turkey delicious.
Enjoy!
Grilled Turkey Burgers with Gouda
2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp sea salt
1 red onion, thickly sliced
1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
6 oz Gouda cheese, sliced
Setup your gas or charcoal grill for direct grilling over medium-high heat.
In a large mixing bowl combine the ground turkey, bread crumbs, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce and a 1/2 tsp of salt.
Break mixture up into 6 equal portions and flatten into 6 patties.
Place the turkey burgers on the grill. Also add the thick sliced red onion to the grill. Brush the onion on both sides with a bit of olive oil and season with a bit of salt. It may help to use skewers or a veggie grill pan for the onions.
Grill the burgers and onion for approximately 3 – 5 minutes per side. Add a slice of Gouda cheese on top of each burger and grill with the cover on for another couple of minutes until the cheese melts.
Serve the turkey burgers topped with the grilled red onion.
If you want to make perfect patties every time, you should try using a burger press. The one that I use is adjustable for different sized patties, and it also has an ejector so you can get it out easily. You are going to want to check it out, it’s pretty handy.
