Today we are going to show you how to make Grilled Naan.
Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread that is popular in Central, West, and south Asia. You will typically find this served at Indian restaurants as well.
If you’ve never had it before it kind of looks like pita bread. When grilled it gets the nice looking grilling lines and burns which definitely add to the flavor.
I really like to have my naan with with shish kabobs. Give it a try, grilled breads are really tasty.
Enjoy!
Grilled Naan
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup white sugar
3 tbsp milk
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp salt
4 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp garlic, minced (optional)
1/4 cup butter, melted
Using a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in some warm water. Let it sit for around 10 minutes, until it starts to froth.
Mix in the sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead the dough for approximately 6 to 8 minutes or until smooth, on a lightly floured surface.
Place the dough in a oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or paper towel, and set aside to rise. Let it rise around 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in volume.
Once the dough has risen, punch down the dough, and knead in the garlic. Pinch off small handfuls of dough about the size of a golf ball. Roll it into balls, and place on a tray. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size, approximately 30 minutes.
While the dough is rising, set up your gas or charcoal grill for high heat.
Roll one ball of the dough out into a thin circle. Lightly oil the grill. Place the dough on grill, and cook for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned. Brush uncooked side with butter, and turn over. Brush cooked side with butter, and cook until browned, around another 2 to 4 minutes.
Remove from the grill, and continue the process until all the naan has been grilled.
