Ham cooked with Coke? I know it sounds really weird, but it works, and works really well. There are a lot of different recipes for cooking a ham with Coke, but the recipe I’m going to show you below is by far the easiest and most tasty I’ve ever tried, I’m sure you’re going to love it.
Cooking Ham with Coke
This recipe we are going to use a whole 2 liter bottle of Coca-Cola. I’ve tried recipes that used a lot less and they weren’t nearly as good. The way that we are going to cook this ham it will ensure to get the sweet Coke flavor.
Instead of in the oven we are going to cook this one on the stovetop. So, you are going to need a large pot or a Dutch oven for cooking the ham. Well, I lied a bit; we will use the oven just to bake on the glaze when the ham is done.
Ingredients:
- 5 lb cured, fully cooked ham
- 2 liter bottle Coca-Cola
- 1 can crushed pineapple
Place the ham in the Dutch oven and pour the Coke and crushed pineapple over it. Turn the oven to medium-high heat. Allow the Coke to start boiling. Once it starts boiling reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for 2 ½ hours. Baste the ham frequently with the Coke throughout cooking.
At this point the ham will be done. If you want to glaze your ham, now is the time to start heating the oven. There are a ton of different glaze recipes that a person could do, but here is one of my favorite ham glaze recipes.
If you are feeling adventurous you could grill your ham as well. You would need a cast iron Dutch oven for on the grill otherwise and aluminum pan covered with foil will work. Definitely experiment, cooking ham with Coke is really good.
